What is Red and Dangles?

Okay who is tittering at the back … no it isn’t a part of my anatomy that has got sunburnt (I know this because none of me is sunburnt – I am reasonably good with the sunscreen).  Just because you laughed I will make you wait to see …

… hand up if you just skipped this and scrolled to the bottom to peek?

So yesterday I got hijacked by an international Facebook friend – it was fun but I couldn’t do that and write here.  It was another day in the woodland glade at the bottom of he jungle – a day which included toads and baby mice.  I was moving a pile of detritus from the old shed demolition so I could work on a little more when I found the first wee toad.  I had gloves on so I very gentle scooped him and moved him over by the fence – he hopped around a bit and then Pup heard him and went to poke and investigate.  Mr Toad poop pooped and disappeared.

The baby mice started to pop up out of their nest which was underground and Pup patted the writhing ground with his paw.  I told him to Hup and Leave and he was very good for several minutes watching the two of them wriggle.  They were actually short tails – so voles rather than mice and too wee to be out of their nest and still blind and no teeth.  After a while Pup couldn’t resist any longer and picked up the bigger one (the size of my thumb) and ran off up the garden.  I told him to stop and he did and put the wee beastie down – it squeaked so he picked it up – I shouldn’t laugh but it was in his mouth and squeaking and he couldn’t work out where the noise was from.  I took it back from him – not that I want the voles but I don’t want Pup thinking he is allowed to kill anything.  I moved the two tinies into the long grass next door – if Mum was around she may retrieve them and find a new nest but more than likely nature will not allow them to go to waste.

Today I have continued and got as far as I can until the old shed and cuttings go to the tip – I have an offer of help with that which I am hoping will be this week or next.  I used up the green paint to paint almost three sides of the shed … Pup helped and now has a green ear!  He sulks when he is told to go away and goes lies down less than 2m from where I am with his back to me; I try to let him help as much as possible but sometimes it isn’t practical.

I am just starting my second online course – Design Thinking Action Lab and I am really excited that one of my friends is joining in too; we submit individual assignments but it is great to have a friend in the support group which our teams form … here’s to five weeks of learning and laughing together.

Now what is red and dangles? my redcurrants!

About nonehpets

I have an interest in how interior design and adapting a home to support living independently for longer can be complementary. The blog Life Long Design is part of an holistic plan for establishing a social enterprise which will offer the people of Tayside opportunities to explore Telecare and the wider scope of assistive technologies. Enabling individuals to make more informed and responsible choices in the care and support they need in their independent living. I am also keen to see public transport more widely adopted and sustainable rural bus services in particular supported. The Blog Travels with a Megarider shares my journey to find serenity in my life as I make that transition form employment to social entrepreneur. One of my methods in increasing serenity is to travel as many miles as I can on a fixed price bus ticket and explore my own local places of interest. Places that I used to go past and had never stopped to look at; places of peace and tranquility; places where I have had some wonderful conversations with complete strangers. I would like to share with you a response to when I described that one paragraph in an e-mail made it sound simple: "Believe me, Cathy, it does not sound simple. You are taking on an incredible challenge for all the right reasons. It is ambitious and admirable - the sort of project that can change lives, including yours." He is right it is ambitious but when did we every achieve anything by settling for the status quo and ignoring what doesn't work for people? So I would welcome your company from time to time on this journey either simply as a reader or if you are brave enough adding your own thoughts to the comments as you feel moved.
