The World is a Pup Chew Toy?

Today has been grim … no snow but it has rained and rained and rained and then rained!  The wind is blowing the rain into the back door so every time we go out to the garden I have to do mopping the floor … which means Pup wants to do mopping the floor too.  The piece of floor is less than a square metre and it takes me 10 minutes to mop every time.  It’s okay I know that has made you smile and I am glad it has but today it has driven me potty.

Pup obviously got out of the wrong side of his Digloo (doggy igloo bed) this morning because he was into everything from the word go.  I understand his frustration with the weather and to be fair he has been out a fair bit and when he really couldn’t stay out long enough he has mostly done his pees in an easily moppable location (maybe that is a plan to do mopping!).

I spent his morning nap time doing my letter of complaint to the bank which my daughter is going to hand deliver to them tomorrow for me.  I got my Christmas gift and card from my parents in the post which is something cheerful to look forward to and I am also to get a supermarket voucher to buy Christmas dinner with which is definitely something to look forward to.

After lunch I tried ringing the DWP to get the bank account they are using changed.  There is only one way to contact them – no web forms or e-mail option – an 0845 number.  And I apologies to you in advance but yes I am going to share the pain!

Dial Number **

Recorded announcement reminding that calls may be recorded

“Please listen to the following options carefully since they have changed” “Press 1 for X or 2 for Y”

“Please listen to the following options carefully since they have changed” “Press 1 if you are calling about yourself …” I didn’t listen to the rest!

“Please enter your National Insurance Number when prompted – only enter the digits so if your NINO is AB123456X please enter 123456” Panic because I know I have it on the bits of paper in front of me but I actually cannot see it on the page!!!! Get told off for not being quick enough … type in the numbers only “Please wait and someone who can help you will take your call”  At this point one is left wondering are they going to help me with my NINO digits because I did it wrong or ….”

Recorded announcement advising that lines are busy please wait or please call again if preferred they are open form blah to blah Monday to Friday (hang on a minute I have to job search 7 days a week and they are only open 5!) “We are generally less busy between 8am and 9am” Well okay but since it is now 2pm on Friday and you don’t answer the phones until Monday that doesn’t help much?  Next is MUSAK (shudder) then recorded message again MUSAK … etc

After 15 minutes I could see the battery dying on the phone so I cut off and dropped it in its cradle.  A short while later I started all over again (if you really want to share the whole pain again please pop back to ** otherwise continue and imagine that repeated cycle for 20 minutes … after all that I did get to speak to very pleasant woman who was very helpful and made the changes and confirmed everything for me.

I had made enquiries about a few days work as a car park marshall just before Christmas and the contact replied that she would call me if I sent my phone number.   I was just about to do washing me and my hair to avoid a repeat of the Pup plays tug with the towel scenario (he was asleep).  Do I wait for the phone call? or do I just take the phone along to the bathroom? I opted to get clean and fresh while I had the chance and I am glad I did since no phone call arrived at all this afternoon.

This evening has been better since Pup seems to have worn himself out and settled but he has been in chew everything mode again and he clearly thinks the only reason I and Dog exist is for him to teeth on.  I tried to get some pictures today as he was sitting on my knee chewing at my clothes but he was such a fidget this is the best of the bunch!

Pup in motion

Here is hoping tomorrow I can find some serenity to recharge my batteries … the rain is still forecast but the wind is due to drop for a while …

About nonehpets

I have an interest in how interior design and adapting a home to support living independently for longer can be complementary. The blog Life Long Design is part of an holistic plan for establishing a social enterprise which will offer the people of Tayside opportunities to explore Telecare and the wider scope of assistive technologies. Enabling individuals to make more informed and responsible choices in the care and support they need in their independent living. I am also keen to see public transport more widely adopted and sustainable rural bus services in particular supported. The Blog Travels with a Megarider shares my journey to find serenity in my life as I make that transition form employment to social entrepreneur. One of my methods in increasing serenity is to travel as many miles as I can on a fixed price bus ticket and explore my own local places of interest. Places that I used to go past and had never stopped to look at; places of peace and tranquility; places where I have had some wonderful conversations with complete strangers. I would like to share with you a response to when I described that one paragraph in an e-mail made it sound simple: "Believe me, Cathy, it does not sound simple. You are taking on an incredible challenge for all the right reasons. It is ambitious and admirable - the sort of project that can change lives, including yours." He is right it is ambitious but when did we every achieve anything by settling for the status quo and ignoring what doesn't work for people? So I would welcome your company from time to time on this journey either simply as a reader or if you are brave enough adding your own thoughts to the comments as you feel moved.
