The Puppy Diaries

It has been a long day but Pup has arrived.  In this first picture you can see that he has no fear – he wants to know who is that handsome dog that has just appeared.  Not long after this a very large dog got on the same part of the train as us and Pup was immediately stood up wagging and wanting to say hello.  Of course he couldn’t since he is not yet fully inoculated but the owner took her further along the train because he said she would want to roll around with them and fuss them.

Prior to that, while we carried Pup and his brother, we were stopped for photographs by passers by and then at the station the staff all trouped in one  at a time to say hello … to the pups not us!

Both boys were extremely good on their journey and we each arrived home with our small bundle of energy in tact.  Dog wasn’t too certain what to do at first – he has never known how to play with dogs … he just does not read the body language!  after a rest Pup had his supper – Dog got some treats and didn’t try to steal the food – and then out in the garden for a poo – he is such a good wee boy.   We have just had playtime and he already comes to me when I call – obviously doesn’t yet know the command but he has bonded to me as pack Alpha and is keen to please me.  He charged around and Dog was starting to understand his bit in the proceedings.  Give it  a day or so and they will be bonded too.

Pup asleep on my feet

Sleepy Pup

This would have been a grand photo of Pup’s brother asleep beside his person … except she put her beautiful red gloves in the shot!Gloves

So here he is shortly afterwards pretending he isn’t sleepy as he falls slowly over!

And here are the two of them behaving perfectly on the train – as if they have been commuting for ever!

Pups Pups Pups

So two trains and for Pup two buses … pees and poos all in proper places and all settling into a new pattern … oh and Pups tail wagged all the way home.  We will get the two boys together again in about  a month and compare notes … in the meantime I expect there might be a few more photos of the wee Pup as he becomes the heart of our home.  Right now he is fast asleep in his crate having had a little bit of a howl.  And Dog? well he has reclaimed the peace of the sofa for a cuddle with me.

About nonehpets

I have an interest in how interior design and adapting a home to support living independently for longer can be complementary. The blog Life Long Design is part of an holistic plan for establishing a social enterprise which will offer the people of Tayside opportunities to explore Telecare and the wider scope of assistive technologies. Enabling individuals to make more informed and responsible choices in the care and support they need in their independent living. I am also keen to see public transport more widely adopted and sustainable rural bus services in particular supported. The Blog Travels with a Megarider shares my journey to find serenity in my life as I make that transition form employment to social entrepreneur. One of my methods in increasing serenity is to travel as many miles as I can on a fixed price bus ticket and explore my own local places of interest. Places that I used to go past and had never stopped to look at; places of peace and tranquility; places where I have had some wonderful conversations with complete strangers. I would like to share with you a response to when I described that one paragraph in an e-mail made it sound simple: "Believe me, Cathy, it does not sound simple. You are taking on an incredible challenge for all the right reasons. It is ambitious and admirable - the sort of project that can change lives, including yours." He is right it is ambitious but when did we every achieve anything by settling for the status quo and ignoring what doesn't work for people? So I would welcome your company from time to time on this journey either simply as a reader or if you are brave enough adding your own thoughts to the comments as you feel moved.

Last year on two separate occasions I collected two Dandie Dinmont terrier pups, one from Helsinki and one from the Orkney islands (via Aberdeen) and flew with them to Amsterdam. I have never been so popular or had better attention by cabin staff. It will be good to see him featuring in future posts.
